John Wick — the smash hit movie franchise starring Keanu Reeves — comes to comics courtesy of a new mini-series from Dynamite Entertainment. A film sequel that received 90% on Rotten Tomatoes, John Wick 2 has delivered an action movie to film goers the way they want it: fast, fast, fast! Now in a new comic series written by Greg Pak, that same adrenaline rush will come to a comic adaptation illustrated by Giovanni Valletta. Check out what writer Greg Pak says about this upcoming book hitting comic shop retailers this August!

**********

Dynamite Entertainment: Tell us about your process for adapting the character/film franchise.

Greg Pak: One of the glorious things about the project is that there are just two John Wick movies out in the world, and they're full of evocative hints but not so many concrete answers about our character's origins. So there's a tremendous opportunity to do some fun reading between the lines and interpreting and dreaming to come up with new stories. I had the chance to exchange emails with Derek Kolstad, the writer who created John Wick, and he was incredibly supportive and open to what we're doing. It feels like a tremendous gift and we're having a total blast.

Dynamite Entertainment: And what do you feel you uniquely bring to the new series?

Greg Pak: The John Wick movies have a great mix of humor, intense action, and sublimated emotion, which feels right up my alley. My favorite kind of stories to write explore real emotional journeys by taking established genres down unexpected paths. I've also got a love of world building and exploring with the rules of a given fictional world, and a John Wick story provides great opportunities to dive into all that good stuff.

Dynamite Entertainment: What similarities/differences do you see between your creation vs the films?

Greg Pak: I'm starting at an earlier point in the story, so John's a little younger and little more raw. He's also discovering this world of assassins and figuring out its rules as the story progresses — and figuring out how and if he's going to participate in all of this. So he's at a different point in his life, with different but hugely high stakes moral choices ahead of him.
