New York Times Names Hillary Chute, Ed Park New Graphic Novel Columnists

The New York Times has announced their appointment of two graphic novel columnists: Hillary Chute, a literary scholar and comics specialists, and Ed Park, a novelist and former Penguin Press executive editor. After dismissing the graphic novel bestseller list in 2017, editor NYTBR editor Pamela Paul, NYTBR deputy editor David Kelley and editor Gal Beckerman said they are “thrilled to announce a new monthly column devoted to the world of graphic novels and comics.”

“This column will allow us to treat comics and graphic novels for what they are, some of the most creative and richly rewarding books being published today,” said Beckerman. “And these two critics, each coming from different directions but both fantastic writers with a deep knowledge about comics, will introduce us to new work and new authors as well as the latest from more established ones, and explore them with the seriousness they deserve.”

The comics and graphic novels column will begin publishing monthly in April.
