Skybound’s Kill the Minotaur Headed for Big Screen

In an exclusive report on September 21, The Hollywood Reporter announced that Robert Kirkman’s Skybound Entertainment and Universal Pictures will adapt the hit comic series Kill the Minotaur. The creators of the book, Christian Cantamessa and Chris Pasetto, will write the screenplay. Kirkman will produce the feature with David Alpert and Bryan Furst & Sean Furst, the company’s co-presidents of TV & film.

"When we created the comic, we wanted to put our own spin on a classic Greek myth, incorporating strong relatable characters and spectacular scenes so it would read like a blockbuster movie,” the writers said in a statement. “It’s a dream come true that we can now make this story come alive on the big screen.”

Kill the Minotaur is a historical fiction adventure where Athens lost the war to Crete. Now, they pay tribute to King Minos by sacrificing their best citizens to his unearthly labyrinth. Conspirators believe Theseus, the Prince of Athens, can be the hero they need to end the mad king’s bloody reign... but no one on this world has ever encountered anything like the savage minotaur.

“The story of Theseus and the Minotaur was my favorite Greek myth as a kid, and Christian Cantamessa and Chris Pasetto have really run with that classic and twisted it into something shocking and fun,” said the series artist, Lukas Ketner. “The series has been an absolute joy to draw, and it's an honor to have my artwork treated to Jean-Francois Beaulieu's coloring expertise.”

“Growing up in Italy, I was fascinated with mythology and its archetypal stories,” said Cantamessa. “Our goal is to continue a time-honored tradition of storytelling and to offer a novel take for a modern audience.”

Kill the Minotaur Volume 1 (9781534303812, $19.99) is slated to release February 2018. For a preview of the graphic novel, see below.
