Action Lab Entertainment

Movie rights for Princeless from Action Lab Entertainment have been optioned by Sony Pictures. Created by Jeremy Whitley and Emily Martin, the comic series tells the story of Princess Adrienne, a young strong-minded and intelligent black princessw who challenges the expectations and stereotypes associated with her royal status. Aspen MLT

Variant covers for the highly anticipated Lola XOXO Volume 2 from Siya Oum were available for consumers and retailers from Aspen. Continuining the best-selling series, the second volume will launch in comic shops in September along with an art book from Siya Oum based on the Lola XOXO universe.

Black Mask Studios

Black Mask Studios hosted a panel for guests discussing how new creators and new ideas are changing comics. Creators on the panel included Magdalene Visaggio, Eva Cabrera, and Claudia Aguirre (Kim & Kim); Kwanza Osajyefo and tim Smith (Black), Matthew Rosenberg and Tyler Boss (4 Kids Walk Into a Bank); and Black Mask co-founder Matteo Pizzolo.

Diamond Select Toys

DST showcased several new collectible figures and statues at San Diego Comic-Con. Figures and statues on display at their booth included: Batman 1966 Batgirl Bank, Cthulhu Vinmate, Marel Premier Collection Deadpool Statue, and more! Read more here.

Dynamite introduced several new titles coming in 2018 including:

  • a Shadow/Batman crossover
  • a manga original graphic novel based on the beloved television show Charmed
  • Richard K. Morgan continues his acclaimed Altered Carbon novels
  • an artbook based on the hit television show The Librarians

Heavy Metal Magazine

Heavy Metal brought several creators to SDCC to host signings for fans including: Grant Morrison, Salvador Velazquez, Rob Prior, and more! The publishing house also announced their launch of music industry graphic novels starting with a graphic novel adaptation of Mötley Crüe's Nikki Sixx's Heroine Diaries and an original graphic novel about Iron Maiden. Image Comics

The Walking Dead announced a release date for Season 8 as well as premiered the first trailer (see trailer here). Image also announced the return of Todd McFarlane's Spawn to the big screen with Blumhouse signed on to produce and McFarlane set to direct the film. Trailers for the upcoming SYFY television adaptation of Happy! by Grant Morrison were also revealed (see trailer here).

Lion Forge

Voltron fans flooded the Lion Forge booth to grab Black Lion masks, massive 22″x 34″ 4-Color posters, and bookmarks of the television show turned comic series. Patrons were also able to have comics and swag signed by Voltron creators Friday night of the show. Lion Forge also announced their contract agreement with digital media service, Hoopla, to provide comics to libraries nationwide. Lion Forge creators signing at the booth included: Ulises Farinas and Erick Freitas (Cloudia & Rex), Brandon Thomas (Catalyst Prime: Noble), Joelle Sellner (Mer), MK Reed (The Castoffs), and David F. Walker and Ray Anthony-Height (Catalyst Prime: Superb).

Oni Press

Scott Pilgrim's Precious Little Card Game made its debut at San Diego Comic-Con with Scott Pilgrim creator Bryan Lee O'Malley available for sketches and autographs. Oni Press also several exclusive books and merchandise including Invader ZIM Deluxe Hardcover, Book One VariantWe Love FINE KAIJUMAX ELECTROGOR Plushies, and several Rick & Morty variants, and more! These exclusives also had their respective creators available to sign throughout the weekend.

Returning to Comic-Con, Tokyopop brought a wave of new releases, news on upcoming titles, and exclusive programming for manga fans. In addition to exclusives, Tokyopop hosted two events: Manga Around the World - a discussion examining the trends in the world of manga as well as international licensing; and Disney Manga: Comics For All Ages - focusing on the explosion in manga popularity among younger readers and parents, and the child-friendly options available to them.

Udon Entertainment

Yoshinori Ono, Street Fighter game creator, was available at the Udon booth for signings of the Street Fighter Metal Card Set and giving away exclusive Gold Metal Evil Ono cards on a first come, first serve basis. Other exclusives included Monster Hunger Heavy Weapon Class Badge Pin SetsMonster Hunter Light Weapon Class Badge Pin SetsNeon Genesis Evangelion Character Collector’s PinsUltra Street Fighter 2 Gold Foil T-shirt, and several other Street Fighter Metal Card Sets.

Valiant Entertainment

Valiant released the first issue of the acclaimed new series Secret Weapons with a Comic Book Legal Defense Fund (CBLDF) Liberty Variant. The series follows Valiant's hero Livewire and an extraordinary team of heroes in the making. Cover artist Erica Henderson was available to sign the 500 copies of Liberty Variant issues while supplies lasted.

Vault Comics provided exclusive, signed Heathen print posters as well as exclusive mini-comics of Zoja Tabloids, ABH #1 Tabloids, ABH #2 Tabloids, and Spiritus Tabloids. Partnering with Gelato Paradiso, Zenescope hosted a gelato eating contest on Saturday, July 22. Winners were randomly selected to win either a free pass to SDCC 2018 or a Playstation VR headset. Zenescope also provided exclusive SDCC variant covers for their Grimm Fairy Tales series.
