Diamond Meets With Publishers at Annual Sales Conference

Every year, Diamond Book Distributors hosts a Spring sales conference, meeting with publishers to discuss upcoming content and sales trends. The meeting takes place at the Diamond home office every spring, and brings together publishers, sales reps and Diamond's marketing and sales teams.

This year, several publishers met with Diamond to discuss upcoming content from April 2017 into spring of 2018, including Image Comics, Dynamite Entertainment, Tokyopop, Lion Forge, Valiant Entertainment, Rabbit Publishers, and Paizo Publishing. The publishers present, along with those who couldn't make it to the conference, showed a line up of amazing graphic novels and games for the remaining year and for 2018. Along with content presentations, several publishers announced upcoming resources they will be making available to bookstores and libraries throughout the rest of the year.

Image Comics reported a substantial increase in sales for March over February along with plans for hosting their second Image Expo on February 1st, 2018 - with the location of the Expo still to be decided. Image will also be providing an Authorless Event resource pack for retailers. The Authorless Event package is a 77-page plan outlining hosting an author event at your bookstore or library in a pdf format that provides all the information necessary to host the event.

Dynamite Entertainment has brought on a new marketing coordinator who will have a more focused approach in connecting with retailers and librarians.

Tokyopop marketing teams discuss upcoming content

Tokyopop will be reprinting their popular series titles in trade paperback form throughout 2017. Tokyopop is also interested in focusing on creator-owned projects by identifying potential creators through their free comics app POPCOMICS. POPCOMICS was developed by and for manga & comics creators and fans and is a mobile-first manga & comics platform where creators/readers can upload, share, read and comment on comics, all from their phone or tablet.

Lion Forge has been putting foot to pavement in developing and expanding their young adult and children titles through their Roar and Cub House Imprints. Their line up of upcoming titles provide high quality content for young readers focusing on both domestic and foreign themes, allowing readers to gain insight into their personal experiences as well as develop a healthy world view.

Valiant Entertainment is expanding their print titles to other media platforms, announcing several movie and tv adaptations including Bloodshot and Quantum and Woody. Along with these new media-tie ins that are perfect for gaining new readers, Valiant has partnered with America's largest music tour, Vans Warped Tour, for the upcoming year.

Rabbit Publishers recently joined Diamond's roster of publishers, providing wholesome kid-friendly content that focuses on reinforcing healthy morals and values in their readers. Breaking the common trope of unhealthy family relationships, their Harry Moon series focuses on providing enjoyable content for children that also establishes strong family ties. Rabbit Publishers provides several resources for retailers and librarians to stock and market the series, and plans to further their library and school programs.

Paizo has expanded their line to further develop consistent pocket editions for their traditional titles as well as quality accessories for their popular role-playing table top game, Pathfinders. Along with the expansion of their core content, Paizo will be introducing the first sci-fi, space fantasy role-playing table top game in August, Starfinder. This is their first new rpg since 2009, and will launch with their largest rule book to date. The rule book is both GM and player friendly, allowing any player to access the same book without buying additional resources.
